Season 2015/16
Opera Ballet

El amor brujo / Goyescas

Manuel de Falla / Enrique Granados

From paintings to piano and from piano to opera: that's how had its birth Goyescas, the most famous work by Enrique Granados on a libretto by Fernando Periquet Zuaznabar. Granados was an amateur painter, and when Spain was celebrated the sesquicentennial anniversary of the birth of Francisco Goya, in 1897, he began to develop a love for the works of the painter. Thus, between 1909 and 1911, he wrote a piano suite, Goyescas, inspired to the themes dear to Goya: the popular Spain, the Madrid of majos and majas, the fashionable young people in the second half of the eighteenth century: elegant, irreverent, seductive.
