Al canto, al ballo

How Opera was born in Florence

An original, dynamic show tells of how in the year 1600 in Florence, opera  was “invented", the musical genre that would dominate Europe for the next three centuries. While preparations were underway for the first performance of Euridice by Jacopo Peri and Giulio Caccini at Pitti Palace, discussions were flaring between the members of the Camerata de’ Bardi, and love affairs between prima donnas and the chroniclers of the times were rampant.  Orpheus was searching for his wife and opera was beginning its journey with many composers musically enriching this marvelous adventure.
