Season 2014/2015
Opera

The Merry Wives of Falstaff

"Everything in the world is a joke," says Falstaff, the protagonist of the comic masterpiece by Giuseppe Verdi, the composer's last tribute to the genius of Shakespeare. Vanity, passion, love, jealousy: these are the nodes of an intricate mechanism that thrives on an overwhelming theatrical rhythm assigned to characters, with suggestions that never stops and an intriguing blend of drama that is developed through the use of actors that illustrate and describe a few highlights of the story. The staging of the fundamental moments of the work will be supported by scenes narrated and performed involving the public in the representation. In a pranking atmosphere, which is counterbalanced by the pure love of two young people, old Falstaff stands and dominates the scene, he wants to cheat but is deceived; characters around him look like figures of the commedia dell'arte, or rather as a mechanism of a clock that is always ready to explode into the show. Irony and cruelty, allusions and frankness are the magic that take part in the staging of an opera, with the music of prodigious Verdi.
