Della Winterreise, eseguita nella versione originale nel concerto precedente, viene riproposta una selezione di alcuni dei più celebri brani nella geniale elaborazione strumentale di Franz Liszt che coglie mirabilmente le sfumature timbriche e le atmofere schubertiane sfruttando tutte le potenzialità della tastiera del fortepiano. La Sonata D 821, ideata per l’Arpeggione (da cui il titolo che la identifica), strumento oggi desueto e sostituito abitualmente dal violoncello, è uno dei grandi capolavori di Schubert. Caratterizzata da una espressività venata di toni malinconici, contiene alcuni dei più famosi temi del grande compositore viennese, ed è uno dei suoi brani più amati.

The pianist Maurizio Baglini boasts a brilliant career as soloist, chamber player, music teacher and artistic director. As soloist he performs on stages such as the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Teatro alla Scala of Milan, the Teatro San Carlo of Naples, the Salle Gaveau of Paris, the Kennedy Center of Washington and he is guest of prestigious festivals, including La Roque d’Anthéron, Yokohama Piano Festival, Australian Chamber Music Festival, “Benedetti Michelangeli” of Bergamo and Brescia. He has worked with eminent conductors, such as John Axelrod, Antonello Allemandi, Giampaolo Bisanti, Marcello Bufalini, Massimiliano Caldi, Tito Ceccherini, Daniel Cohen, Howard Griffiths, Armin Jordan, Seikyo Kim, Emanuel Krivine, Karl Martin, Donato Renzetti, Corrado Rovaris, Ola Rudner, Daniele Rustioni and Maximiano Valdes. Warmly approved by specialized critics, his record production for Decca/Universal includes works by Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, Schubert, Domenico Scarlatti and Mussorgsky. In 2018 his third CD of the complete piano works by Schumann – with Kreisleriana, Davidsbündlertänze and Kinderszenen – is released. Since 2008 he has been promoting the project “Ode to joy”, which allows him to play in the whole world the “Ninth Symphony” by Beethoven/Liszt, with more than fifty live performances, including: Milan, Cremona, Paris, Munich, Tel Aviv, Rio de Janeiro, Beirut. He has on his account also the project “Web Piano”, which combines great piano masterpieces live performances – such as Schumann’s Carnaval, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition or Debussy’s Images – with projections by the multimedia artist Giuseppe Andrea L’Abbate(La Roque d’Anthéron, Lisztomanias 2017, Châteauroux, Emilia Romagna Festival). As chamber musician he constantly performs with the cellist Silvia Chiesa and works with colleagues such as Massimo Quarta, Cinzia Forte, Roberto Prosseda and La Scala String Quartet. Founder and artistic director of the Amiata Piano Festival, he is the artistic consultant for dance and music of Teatro Comunale “Verdi” of Pordenone and cultural ambassador of Friuli Venezia Giulia region. He holds masterclasses for the Accademia Stauffer in Cremona. He plays a Fazioni grand piano. As passionate runner, he ran the marathons of Paris, Pisa, Wien, Berlin, Amsterdam and New York.
SILVIA CHIESA
The cellist Silvia Chiesa is among the most prominent Italian performers on the international scene, with a dense agenda of concerts and recordings. During an intense career she has developed a very personal style that combines a strong originality in the repertoire choices with the refined passionate nature of her interpretations. She decisively contributed to the relaunch of the twentieth century Italian solo repertoire. She was the first Italian to revalue and record the Cello Concerto by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco: the CD, published by Sony Classical, is realeased on April 2018 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the composer's death and it also includes the Cello Concertos by Riccardo Malipiero (in its first world recording) and by Gian Francesco Malipiero. Remarkable is the presence of all Italian performers: in addition to Silvia Chiesa, the Rai National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Massimiliano Caldi. The album is the continuation of a vast discographic project which also includes the Concerto by Ildebrando Pizzetti and music of rare performance by Nino Rota, Alfredo Casella and Ottorino Respighi. Dedicatee of the solo compositions with orchestra by Azio Corghi and Matteo D’Amico, she was chosen by composers such as Gil Shohat, Nicola Campogrande, Aldo Clementi, Michele Dall’Ongaro, Peter Maxwell Davies, Giovanni Sollima, Gianluca Cascioli and Ivan Fedele for the first performances of their pieces. As soloist she performed with teams such as the Orchestra Nazionale della Rai, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra della Toscana, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, St. Peterburg Soloists, Orchestra of Rouen and the Symphonic of Krakow. She worked with conductors like Luciano Acocella, Paolo Arrivabeni, Gürer Aykal, Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli, Giampaolo Bisanti, Massimiliano Caldi, Tito Ceccherini, Daniele Gatti, Cristian Orosanu, Corrado Rovaris, Daniele Rustioni, Howard Shelley and Brian Wright. Moreover, she recorded live concerts for radio and television broadcasters like Rai Radio3, Rai Sat, France Musique and France3. With the pianist Maurizio Baglini, she has on her count more than two hundreds concerts all over the world and a vast duo repertoire. Their recordings for Decca of the Sonatas by Schubert, Brahms and Rachmaninov received an enthusiastic welcome by the specialised critics. Silvia Chiesa is resident artist of the Amiata Piano Festival and professor at the Conservatory “Monteverdi” of Cremona. She plays a Giovanni Grancino cello from 1697.
