Season 2016/17
Concert

John Axelrod

Probably one of the most well-known pieces of music in the world: the wedding march from A midsummer night’s dream by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, composed in 1842 as stage music and made fashionable a few years later when it was played at the wedding of Princess Victoria and Frederick William I of Prussia. The solemnity of the wedding march is well-matched by the Symphony Renana, perhaps the most beloved of Robert Schumann, who denoted the forth movement “as accompaniment for a solemn ceremony”.
