Grigory Sokolov

Grigory Sokolov has a half-century career. Interpreter of a vast repertoire, which extends from the Middle Ages to contemporary composers, from time dedicates his concert exclusively to piano recitals.

Grigorij Sokolov

Born in St. Petersburg in 1950, he began his musical studies at the age of five. In 1966 he won the First Prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and began his international career. He has performed with orchestras including the Philharmonia, Royal Concertgebouw, New York Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony, Munich Philharmonic, Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala, Moscow Philharmonic and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. Among the many directors he has worked with are Myung-Whung Chung, Valery Gergiev, Herbert Blomstedt, Neeme Järvi, Sakari Oramo, Trevor Pinnock, Andrew Litton, Walter Weller and Moshe Atzmon. With a repertoire ranging from the music of Pérotin to contemporary creations, he now dedicates his performances exclusively to solo piano recitals.
