Tristan und Isolde

World premiere

“To drown, to founder - unconscious - utmost rapture!” Isolde’s last words at the end of the opera are the source of inspiration for the choreographer who has called upon Dorothée Gilbert and Mathieu Ganio, both étoile dancers at the Opéra National de Paris, to form a duo in the hour long performance of Tristan und Isolde. The two exceptional dancers are a perfect fit for the characters of Tristan and Isolde, in whom Giorgio Mancini wishes to breathe life into their souls during an evening of passion and emotion.

Giselle, ou les Wilis

The first part of the evening, performed by Maggiodanza ballet company, is the second act of Giselle , ou Les Wilis, staged in Florence's Teatro Comunale in 2013. This version of the romantic ballet masterpiece is a revisitation by Giorgio Mancini with a language that evokes the steps of traditional choreography, focusing on finding light moves, ethereal, without resistance. Elusive and spiritual. As a soul who tries to find herself.

Giselle

The second act of Giselle is the essence of the most romantic ballet: in fact, what could be more elusive of the fantasy world in which the Wilis, as spirits of evil, dance? Dance is the central theme in Giselle this centrality suggested the choreographer the idea of Giselle, ou Les Wilis, in which I imagined a ballet in the ballet, a dance company, and her principal dancer, who must make his debut in the ballet Giselle with a guest étoile. If in the first act is staged the everyday microcosm of a ballet company, the second act is the dream world of performers. Contradictions arises from the original storyline of the individual versus group, the normal versus the "other", the real versus the unreal, altough remaining faithful to the formal scheme of the original ballet, restoring Albrecht's centrality.
Albrecht is not conscious of his own self, but he is consumed with dance as a way of lif: he flirts with Giselle, and she is misled in thinking he loves her. Revelation of the betrayal unleash a powerful shock on her that will lead to her death and Albrecht's fall in an oniric world. For this reason the second act of this performance is focused on Albrecht, who lives suspended between the world of the senses and the unreal, in a constant dream/nightmare with open eyes, with a choreographic language that evokes the steps of the traditional choreography ballet, focusing on finding light moves, ethereal, without resistance. Elusive and spiritual. As a soul who tries to find herself.

Tristan und Isolde

The ballet is an overview of an impossible love story and of the passion that unites Tristan and Isolde trough what Giorgio Mancini, the choreographer, calls "emotional narrative" the leitmotif of his creations. The last words of Isolde - "To drown, to founder, unconscious - utmost rapture!" - suggests a dark universe in which to mix dream, love, sensuality, sexuality, and even the destructive passion that leads the two lovers to death. The choreography is designed as a pas de deux with alternating moments of dance and musical interludes to keep the emotional power of ballet.
