Dietrich Paredes / Orchestra Giovanile Italiana

On June 14, 2005, Carlo Maria Giulini, one of the great conductors of the twentieth century, died in Brescia. He conducted in Florence on many occasions, including Don Sebastiano by Gaetano Donizetti for the XVIII Maggio Musicale, Rigoletto in 1966 and Falstaff in 1983, and he is now being remembered ten years after his death by the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana, which he conducted various times. The program for this homage includes the Concerto in G major for piano and orchestra composed by Maurice Ravel, the 1919 version of the fairy-tale ballet L'Oiseau de feu by Igor Stravinskij and Pictures at an Exhibition, the famous composition by Modest Musorgskij, inspired by the works of his friend Viktor Aleksandrovič Hartmann, who died suddenly at only thirty-nine.

ORCHESTRA GIOVANILE ITALIANA

Founded in 1980 by Piero Farulli, with the collaboration of personalities such as Franco Ferrara, Roberto Michelucci, Vinko Globokar and the Trio di Trieste, as a training program for young, recently graduated muscians. In 1981 Piero Bellugi conducted the orchestra at the Teatro alla Scala di Milano, and five years later they were directed by Riccardo Muti in a concert for the Amici della Musica in Perugia, and they continue to work with Muti at the Ravenna Festival.  Among the great conductors with whom they have performed in concerts and on tour include Carlo Maria Giulini, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Daniele Gatti, Gianandrea Noseda and Gabriele Ferro.

 

DIETRICH PAREDES

Born in 1980, he studied violin with Ruben Cova, Ulises Ascanio, Santiago Garmendia, José Francisco del Castillo and has participated in master classes held by musicians such as Agustin Dumay, Olivier Charlier, Virginie Robilliard, Aaron Rosand, Maurice Hasson, Yossy Zivoni, Daniel Stabrawa, Eugene Fudor and Igor Oistrakh. At the age of eleven he won the Encuentro Internacional de Niños y Jóvenes Solistas Instrumentistas and in 1997 he joined the first violins of the Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar. He also studied conducting with José Antonio Abreu, soon becoming Music Director of the Sinfónica Juvenil de Caracas. During the 2012-2013 season he was the assistant to Gustavo Dudamel, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Vasily Petrenko and John Adams at the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
