Avi Avital, one of the most important mandolin virtuosos, has been nominated for a Grammy Award for the “Best instrumental soloist performance with an orchestra” for his execution of the Avner Dorman concerto, composed on commission for Avital, which lies at the heart of the novelty of the evening’s programme. The opening is entrusted to the Concerto in D major RV 93, by Antonio Vivaldi, originally composed for the lute. In the second part of the evening, Zubin Mehta will lead the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra in Anton Bruckner’s Fourth symphony, the Romantica, one of the most played of the Austrian composer’s works.
