Pollicino

BY HANS WERNER HENZE

It was 1980 when Pollicino (Tom Thumb), the story for the music of Hans Werner Henze, debuted in Montepulciano interpreted by the boys of the place, with the enthusiasm of all the countries involved in the hotbed of experimentation that was the Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte created by the same Henze. The protagonists of the story - that mixes elements from Collodi, Grimm and Perrault - are Pollicino, his brothers, the animals of the forest and the ogre's daughters headed by the sweet Clotilde, for the sake of which Pollicino and all the others will not longer return home, leaving behind a hostile world with courage to open up to life.
