Il concerto si apre con la Grazer Fantasie in do maggiore, che deve il proprio nome a una copia manoscritta trovata nel 1962 nella proprietà di Josef Hüttenbrenner (un amico e estimatore dello stesso compositore) a Graz, composizione di carattere rapsodico ed improvvisativo, in cui il tema iniziale in do maggiore gioca il ruolo di leit-motiv. A seguire la Wanderer-Fantasie, un lavoro di ampio respiro e articolato in quattro movimenti tra un andamento tempestoso e passaggi brillanti di squisita eleganza, un brano di carattere insolitamente virtuosistico, che lo stesso Schubert dichiarava “eseguibile soltanto dal diavolo”. I 12 Valses nobles, invece, appartengono ad un genere musicale quasi di intrattenimento, genere per il quale Schubert godette la più grande popolarità in vita. A concludere i Drei Klavierstücke, brani dal carattere improvvisativo e improntato ad una alternanza tra il cantabile e il ritmo di danza.

Naruhiko Kawaguchi
Naruhiko Kawaguchi was born in Morioka in 1989 and grew up in Yokohama, Japan. He is the prizewinner of several competitions from competitions all over the world: The International Competition Musica Antiqua Bruges 2016, the 1st Rome Fortepiano International Competition (Premio Muzio Clementi ), the Geelvinck Fortepiano Concours 2015 (Amsterdam), Stanley Hoogland Square Piano Award 2016 ,to name but a few. He has performed fortepiano recitals in Wunderkammer of Trieste 2013 (Italy) and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino 2016, Monteverdi Festival (Cremona), Festival Oude Muyiek Utrecht and so on. In 2016, he premiered the second edition of " Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano" by F. Poulenc with Saxton Rose (bassoon), and Nicholas Daniel (oboe) in U.S.A. His first solo recording of works by J. L. Dussek was released by Brilliant Classics in 2015. His second solo CD of works bz F. Schubert was released from Fuga Libera in 2017. And he recorded Bartok's "Sonata for two pianos and percussion" with Tomohiro Ando (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra) Jan Roel Hamersma (Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra) and Kaoru Jitsukawa. It will be released from his own label, MUSIS in 2018.
He holds a Master's degree in Early Music from the Tokyo University of the Arts. And he holds a Master's degree in Early Music from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he graduated in 2017 with "cum laude". He has studied fortepiano with Kikuko Ogura and Richard Egarr.
