Music and spirituality enclosed and exalted in the pages of two great composers of early eighteenth century. Johann Adolf Hasse was born in Hamburg in 1699, but at twenty-five years, in order to "sweeten the mood", he moved first to Naples and then to Venice. Here is where "the dear Saxon", as he was called, composed his poignant Miserere for the Conservatory of the Incurables of which he was capellmeister. A few years later, in Naples, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi received by the Brotherhood of the Knights of Our Lady of Sorrows of St. Louis Palace the commission of a Stabat Mater for the Holy Week to replace that of Alessandro Scarlatti. It was his ultimate masterpiece, finished, according to tradition, on March 17, 1736, the day of his death.
