The succession of four notes - perhaps the most famous in the history of music - opens the first movement of the Symphony No. 5 by Ludwig van Beethoven. It's "fate knocking at the door", lapidary and irrevocable. How that of Aleksandr Skrjabin, forced, as a result of an injury to the joints of the right hand caused by the frenzied study of Beethoven' sonatas, to abandon the established career as a pianist to devote himself exclusively to composition. This is the origin of his only Piano Concerto, written between 1896 and 1897. To complete the program, the Notturno op. 70 by Giuseppe Martucci, with its sensual yearnings forerunners of Giacomo Puccini and Pietro Mascagni.
