ACERM, the association promoting the famous Premio Vittorio Gui in Florence, strengthens its collaboration with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino proposing as part of the 78th Maggio Musicale a concert of German sisters Lea and Esther Birringer, winners of the 2011 Gui prize. The program opens with the virtuoso Figaro by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, a tribute to the Florentine composer of international renown who collaborated with Vittorio Gui at the very birth of the Maggio Musicale. The program follows with two masterpieces of late Romantic literature for violin and piano, the Sonata op.78 of Brahms and Franck's Sonata, with in the middle the Barcarolle for piano by Chopin.

Esther and Lea Birringer have been the winners of top prizes at major international music competitions in Germany, France, Austria and Italy. In addition to their solo activities, the sisters also enjoy a close collaboration as a duo and they are one of the most promising sibling duos of their generation. The sisters caused a stir in 2011 when they consecutively won two renowned international chamber music competitions in Italy: the “Premio Vittorio Gui” in Florence, and the “Concorso Internazionale di Musica da Camera” in Pinerolo. In addition, they were honored to receive the Special Award as “Best Brahms Interpreters.” Since then the Duo has received numerous invitations from chamber music festivals and concert series, and has impressed audiences with their stylistic and original interpretations of works from both the standard and modern repertoire.
