Andrea Battistoni / Roberto Cominati

From the Alps to the Pyramids: the Piccola Suite Agreste by Riccardo Zandonai evokes the Dolomites and mountain life, while the fifth concerto for piano and orchestra by Camille Saint-Saëns was composed in Luxor among the archaeological ruins of the Temple of Amun, and in the adagio cites Nubian melodies sung by the boatmen on the Nile. To close the program are the Ukrainian atmospheres of the second symphony of Čajkovskij, introduced by the theme of the horns, 'Along the Mother Volga'.

ANDREA BATTISTONI

Born in Verona in 1987, at twenty-four Andrea Battistoni was on the podium of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. He began studying conducting in 2004, took a diploma in cello in 2006 and received a degree in Composition in 2013. Since 2006 he has directed the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of La Scala. First guest conductor of the Teatro Regio di Parma during 2011-12, he was appointed First guest conductor of the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa for the period 2014-16.

ROBERTO COMINATI

Admitted at the age of eight for "Special Merit" at the historic Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples, Roberto Cominati completed his piano studies with Aldo Ciccolini and Franco Scala, beginning his concert activity in 1993. He has played under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle, Leon Fleisher, Daniel Harding, David Robertson and has been a guest at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Sydney Opera House and the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. His Italian concerts often see him at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, La Fenice in Venice, Teatro San Carlo in Naples and the Opera of Florence. In 2012 he recorded the complete piano works by Maurice Ravel for Amadeus.
