Alexander Sladkovsky / Julian Rachlin

A Russian conductor for a Russian program. The overture of Prince Igor begins the evening followed by the only concerto for violin and orchestra composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, written on the shores of Lake Geneva in the spring of 1878, a poignant masterpiece entrusted to Julian Rachlin and his 1704 Stradivarius.  In the second half of the program, the tenth Symphony of Dmitri Shostakovich, in which the orchestra draws a 'portrait of Stalin' to then tear it to pieces with the four notes of the final theme, composed of the initials of the composer. In German notation the notes D, Eb, C, B are indicated as D, S, C, H, or D. Sch., initials in German of Dimitrij Shostakovich.

JULIAN RACHLIN

Born in Vilnius in 1974, but moved very young in Austria. In 1983 he entered the Konservatorium Wien to study violin and takes private lessons with Pinchas Zuckerman. In 1988 he won the Eurovision Young Musicians competition and thus became the youngest soloist ever to have performed with the Wiener Philharmoniker, making his debut with Riccardo Muti. Works with conductors such as Mstislav Rostropovich, Zubin Mehta, James Levine, Lorin Maazel, André Previn and Vladimir Ashkenazy. In 2000 he founded the music festival in Dubrovnik Julian Rachlin & Friends. In addition to as a violinist and violist, since 1998 he is also director of the orchestra.
