Pinchas Zukerman / Amanda Forsyth

Max Bruch's music opens the evening with two ethnic-flavoured themes: the Adagio on Celtic Melodies and the Kol Nidrei, two experiments of variations for cello and orchestra on a Celtic and a Jewish religious theme done by the German composer. After a concert for violin and orchestra by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the evening ends with Symphony n. 2 by Ludwig van Beethoven.

PINCHAS ZUCKERMAN

Born in Tel Aviv in 1948 at age four he began to play flute and clarinet before switching to the violin. He studied at the Conservatory and the Academy of Music in his hometown, then transferred to the Juilliard School in New York. In this city he made his debut in 1963 and three years later he won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions. In 1969, he made his first of more than fifty recordings. The following year, leading the English Chamber Orchestra, he began his career as a conductor, nominated as the director of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra from 1980 to 1987, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra from 1991 to 1995, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra from 1996 to 1999 and the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa since 1999; since 2009 is also principal guest conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
